Every person goes through the right of passage and become an adult. People go through the right of passage at different times. Sometimes people have fears they must overcome before going through this. Others may not be ready or mature enough to go through this right of passage. William Golding shows this in the novel Lord of the Flies, through the use of characterization, setting, and conflict. This is also shown in the song "Shadows and Tall Trees" by U2 through the use of personification, repetition, and In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys are trapped on an island and must overcome hardships. One literary element he uses is characterization. Ralph and Jack have different view on most things. Ralph is more mature, responsible, helpful, consoling, and protective of the littluns. Jack is irresponsible, immature, aggressive, and he laughs and makes fun of others.
