The Book of Job describes how God is manipulated into trying to force his best servant, Job, into blaspheming the Lord to his face. The adversary set forth to destroy all of Job’s possessions; he destroyed Job’s flocks of sheep, camels, oxen, and she-asses, as well as ending the lives of all of Job’s children. When this did not succeed in causing Job to blaspheme the Lord, the adversary inflicted a terrible infection on Job. Job’s life was destroyed. ... When through all of this Job still did not blaspheme the Lord, the Lord challenged Job directly. Through all of this, Job continued to keep his integrity and fear of the Lord and remained upright and blameless and did not blaspheme the Lord.
