The Recognition of Women in Sports
In the past, women have been looked at as figures which stay at home and care for the family. ... As times are changing, so are the roles of women. Women now have more options then in the past, and are free to make their own choices. ... In addition, an increasing number of women are playing professional sports ranging anywhere from tennis, to basketball, to soccer. ... Women are not being taken seriously as hardworking athletes and three examples of this are in televised sports news and highlights shows, in feature coverage of women’s sports in Sports Illustrated, and ESPN’s List of the top 100 athletes of the Century.
Televised Sport Shows
To begin, research was performed in 1990 and 1994 to prove that women’s sports are not covered as frequently or as in depth as male sports and now another study is going to be held to compare results. In this study, six weeks of televised sports news was analyzed on three different networks, and at two different times of day. ...
