The Raging Bull: Jake La Matta Martha Scorcese’s Raging Bull is a journey into the complex life of Jake La Matta, a famous boxer in the1940’s. La Matta, played by Robert DiNiro, is a complex boxer with only one thing on his mind: becoming the Middle Weight Champion of the World. The way a professional boxer portrays himself is by having an unpleasant attitude, violent nature, and by being temperamental, and this is all true about Jake La Matta. The only problem La Matta encounters is that he does not know how to leave these emotions in the ring and out of his personal life. Once Jake allows his boxing personality to interfere in his personal life with his wife and his brother, his high profile life and career slowly begin to deteriorate due to their reactions towards his behavior. The deterioration of Jake’s life is something he can blame only himself about, and once he realizes what he has done, it is too late. He knows he has just lost what is most important to him, his family, and that there is no erasing time or turning back. This loss of personal connection with whom he loved most, takes Jake’s life into a downward spiral. One in which he cannot escape.
