Serpico Jessica Kearns Legal Ethics Report Number 2 8/1/2003 Serpico is based off of a true story that took place in the New York PD. The integrity of one police officer was tested from the beginning of his career all the way to the end. Frank Serpico started his career as a police officer because he wanted to make a legitimate difference and wanted to one day become a detective. However through out the movie he is faced with conflicts that undermine the integrity of his department as well as himself. In the beginning Frank Serpico had strong delusions of grandeur when it comes to the career of a police officer. He views police officers as the protector of innocent citizens and holds them at a higher level of integrity and honor. However, almost immediately his rose colored glasses were taken off. Frank soon faces his first ethical dilemma of his career. He was on patrol one evening with his new partner and they got a call about a possible rape going on.
