Satire is evident in the film Wag the Dog from the very start when the title appears and a narrator explains the concept of the tail wagging the dog rather than the dog wagging the tail. Thus, the stage is set for a movie that portrays the United States government as being the “dog” that is wagged by the media, the “tail. ... The theme of the film is incorporated during the scenes of the memorial service when a dog is made to run behind the casket of the “war hero.” This integrates the title of the movie, “Wag the Dog,” with the satire of the media running the government. ...
Though Wag the Dog depicts satire by using extreme and exaggerated ideas, there is still an underlying truth throughout events in the film that portray the media’s impact on the public.
