The History of Banrock Station
Aboriginals lived in the land surrounding Banrock for around 20,000 years. In 1852 the early European settlers began pastoral grazing on the wetland grasses around the area. ... It also caused a rise in the water tables in the Banrock floodplain. This caused a rise in salt levels and killed off many box trees in low lying areas
In 1992 sheep were removed from Banrock Station and grazing ceased. ... At this time Wetland Care Australia had commenced a small amount of restoration work with the previous owners. This then resulted in a large-scale wetland management plan being developed by Banrock Station with the assistance of Wetland Care Australia. And it is because of this plan that Banrock Station exists as we know it today.
