The movie, the Newsies, was about a group of boys who sold newspapers in New York. Their “living spaces” were compact and filthy. Some of the boys, like “Jack Kelly,” had no families. Other boys like Les, were very young and weak. The cost of the newspapers, which they had to buy in order to sell, increased by ten percent. The Newsies wanted the government to respect their rights, so they went on strike. This strike was headed by the oldest and strongest of all of the boys, “Jack Kelly.” They decided not to buy any more papers and not let anyone else buy any newspapers either until the price went back down. These boys were arrested and beat up in the process.
