In Fisher’s “The Bedquilt” Fisher portrays Aunt Mehetabel as a single, never married sixty-eight year old women who has been important to anyone. Aunt Mehetabel lives with her brother and his family. Her family treated her as a maid but they did that unconsciously. In fact they were fond of her, but she was an insignificant figure in their life. Aunt Mehetabel’s favourite hobby was to sew. She loved sewing things. One day she had an idea to make a bedquilt with a unique design. Her sister-in-law was surprised to see what fine work Aunt Mehetabel had done; she drew this to the attention of other family members.
