Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is a disease that effects many Americans everyday. Yearly lung cancer will
kill an estimated 170,000 Americans and 80% of lung cancer is caused by smoking. Radon is the
second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today. Radon gas kills between 15,000
and 20,000 Americans every year and 12 % of lung cancer deaths are linked to radon. Another
leading cause of lung cancer is on the job exposure to cancer causing substances such as
asbestos, uranium, arsenic, and certain petroleum products. Lung cancer can take many years to
grow even though damage to the lungs could occur shortly after a person is exposed to the cancer
causing substance.
