From the opening page of this novel it had the audience by their shirts. It showed, through the power of words, what devastating effects one virus could have on a community, on a family, or on a single being. Richard Preston took the general description and put a face to this “life form” by telling the virus’ clutch on one man, Charles Monet. Monet was a man who lived on his own and liked it that way. Until that is, he didn’t show up for work a few days after a vacation with one of his lady friends, and his colleagues came to check on them. What they found would set the course for the upcoming months in the shadows of Mount Elgon. When Monet’s colleagues finally did come check on him he had already moved through the first stages of the virus called Ebola.
