It consists of a series of essays written by Du Bois to discuss the racism being exercised on blacks after slavery. The Souls Of Black Folk gives a vivid heartfelt picture of the life of the newly freed Negro. Du Bois gives a masterful depiction of the psychological ideals of the time period. His writings on twoness, living life as an African and an American, are a moving portrayal of the African American mind frame. To further convey these feelings of twoness, Du Bois discusses double consciousness and the double identity. Du Bois’ brilliant use of the Veil displays the problem of segregation in America.
