Changes in Childhood If we compare childhood 100 years ago to childhood today there are some remarkable differences. Children 100 years ago would have experienced poverty; they would often go hungry and barefoot. They would be put to workhouses at a very young age and been susceptible to diseases through lack of sanitation and a poor diet; diseases we may not often hear about nowadays like TB and Dysentery. Because they would not have access to free, quality healthcare the more common diseases, easily curable today’s e.g. Diarrhoea may have lead to death. Children 100 years ago would have had no access to a free education, unless they came from a well-off family, even then the education system was often run by cruel masters who would often themselves abuse the children.
