In the 2001 introduction, the most alarming message presented by Barber is that no matter who the victor is in Jihad vs. McWorld, democracy is clearly the loser. In essence then, Jihad is a threat because it overemphasizes our differences; McWorld is a threat because it eliminates those differences. McWorld in turn, does everything in its power to stifle democracy as well.
