“Becket,” The Movie
Personal Response: Initially while watching this movie I felt as though it was a bit old. ... The center of this movie is the story and dialogue itself. This gives an old movie freshness to it. ... Being almost two and half hours long and going to Blockbuster five different times to find the video available, this movie was well worth the wait and the viewing.
Theme / Topic: This movie tackles the age old battle and argument of the role of church and state. ... However the main theme of this movie is the ability for a man to change his deepest convictions and do the right thing, even late in life.
Claim: Thomas Becket has a true change of heart and character in this movie. ...
Scenes, Characters, Sets and Music:
Scene: In the opening scene and the closing scene of the movie we see that King Henry II is willing to subject himself to humiliation in order to win the favor of the monks and common people that he rules over.
Analysis: Throughout the movie you see that Henry II has a deep and profound love for his friend turned enemy Thomas Becket.
