At the romantic (yet far-fetched) conclusion of Down with Love, the audience can surmise that the couple will live happily ever after, just as all lovers do in fairy tales. But the kind of happily ever after implied by the ending of this movie isn’t entirely sappy because the couple’s happiness isn’t based on whimsical fantasies of a prince and his princess, or a couple bonded primarily by their animalistic lust for one another which is often mistaken for “true love”. ... She dresses in more pink than a Barbie doll, walks daintily (actually, rather rigidly robotic in most scenes) in uncomfortable high heeled pumps… but most importantly she lacks the assertion she preaches so passionately in her novel, Down with Love.
