Switzerland is a popular country in Europe. Switzerland is not heavily populated or very big, but attracts many tourists year round. This beautiful landlocked country has its own qualities. With a unique background, this country has become very popular. Switzerland is located in Central Europe. It is east of France and north of Italy. Switzerland’s surrounding countries are France, Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein, and Germany. Its total area is 41,290 sq. km. A good way to compare it would be to look at New Jersey. Switzerland is a landlocked country. The highest elevation in Europe is located in Switzerland. About 20% of the Alps are in Switzerland. There are almost 100 peaks that are close to or higher than 13125 ft. above sea level. There are many types of transportation to use to get around in the mountains. Switzerland is also famous for its alpine passes, which are important pathways between the northern and southern part of Europe. The Swiss Alps are famous for recreational activities. There are many lakes in Switzerland. The total water area is 1,520 sq. km. The largest lake is Lake Geneva, which is 584 sq. km. Its maximum depth is 310 meters deep.
