This passage from “The Taming of the Shrew” is a very important one because it lets the audience know who seven of the actors are and what the main theme of the play will be. In this passage the seven parts played are Baptista, a rich gentleman of Padua, Katherina, the older daughter of Baptista (the Shrew), Bianca, the younger daughter of Baptista, Lucentio, son of Vincentio(an old gentleman of Pisa), Tranio, servant of Lucentio, and Gremio and Hortensio, suitors to Bianca.
These lines inform the audience about the father’s wishes for older daughter (the Shrew) to marry first before he will let the younger one be courted by anyone. ... Other wise there is no real problems interpreting this passage. ...
I decided on this passage for my analysis because I think it is one of the most important parts of the set-up of the play.
