As the main focus of Native Son, Bigger represents the black race as whole, and is the embodiment of the theme-the effects of racism. He is introduced in the novel as a black man in his twenties who lives with his mother and two younger siblings in a small South Side apartment. Being overwhelmed with feelings of disgust, shame, and fear, he succumbs to his viloent urges due to his built-up anger. Thus he becomes a viloent chracter in the novel. His violences if first brought to your attention where he is smashing the rat with a skillet. After he kills the rodent, he continues to pound its head in while cursing at the top of his lunges.
