Sigmund Freud’s theory or structure of the personality consisted of three ideas. Freud called them the Ego, ID and Super-ego. Only the ego was visible and the other two, ID and super-ego are below the surface, deep inside the mind. In this paper I will address all three parts of Freud’s personality structure relating to my brother. My brother Moses has a rage problem his ego represses aggravating experiences. This inevitably builds up and brings his unconscious or ID to the surface. He then has a sense of guilt, his super-ego. My brothers Ego, as Freud would say the surface of his personality the part he shows the world. My brother’s problem with rage originates at his ego. He represses anger from aggravating experiences. He has had instilled in him from an early age by his parents and teachers that to be aggravated and to release his anger by yelling and screaming was wrong. He was not shown another way to vent his anger so he now only knows to repress it and not to deal with it at the conscious level.
