Reality of Glory War

War is often perceived as a noble and glorious event that brings pride to a country or group of people, but the reality of war is a destructive agonizing process that yields only pain and loss. War has devastating lifelong effects on its combatants and others who experience it first hand. Kurt Vonnegut, a war veteran, embodies war’s corruption of the human soul after the trauma of war. Because of this, Vonnegut writes Slaughterhouse- Five, an anti-war novel that reveals its message through irony, repetition, symbolism and structure.
Irony is evident throughout the novel and is used to reveal the reality of war and convey the anti-war message. ... Billy wanting to correct the vision of others is ironic because Billy has been pushed to insanity and become oblivious to reality.
