“Remember” by Joy Harjo
By Marli Haddan
The free verse poem “Remember,” by Joy Harjo uses anaphora, or repetition, to emphasize the main topic the author is conveying. The word “remember” is written in every line followed by a thought relating to our individual importance to the earth and all existence. ... The main point that is coming across to the reader is to remember your history and to know that all humans influence our world and we are all related in the universe. Absorbing the beauty of our surroundings, nature, people, and ideas, will make us remember that we have to work together as one and to pass on and leave behind a meaningful and solid foundation for out next generation.
