During the experiment, the subjects who played the roles as guards became victims of de individuation and those who played the roles of prisoners were dehumanized. “I had been conducting research for some years on de individuation and dehumanization… which ordinary people could be led to engage in anti-social acts by putting them in situations where they felt anonymous, or they could perceive of others in ways that made them less than human,"(The Stanford Prison Experiment). ... They also dehumanized Piggy in many ways, including calling him “Piggy” instead of his real name, never regarding him as a human being with real emotions, and by killing him as though he were not human at all but more like a pig in one of their hunts.
