Mr Keating’s teaching Methods were innovative and effective.
John Keating was a visionary. ... " These words were spoken by Mr Keating to his senior English class on their very first lesson with him. ...
During his time at Welton Academy, Mr Keating’s way of teaching was constantly looked upon as a controversy. ... He taught them the works of the romantic poets such as Thoreau and Lord Byron and employed outdoor activities to warn them of the dangers of conformity. ... This isn’t surprising as early on in the term in one of Mr Keating’s lessons, he asked the class to stand on their desks to demonstrate how different the world can become if you look at it from another point of view. As his lessons progressed we observe noticeable changes in Knox, who finally finds the courage to ask out the girl he has fallen in love with, despite the chance of rejection and the thought of his family’s disapproval, which he had been burdened with. We can see Todd’s character develop from an extremely shy boy who cannot read aloud in front of others, to be the one to stand up for what he thinks is right when nobody else had the nerve. Mr Keating’s influence is blamed for the death of Neil Perry, I do not agree with this, although he may have had some part in this by introducing the romantic ideals into his life.
