The Epic of Gilgamesh Essay The Epic of Gilgamesh is an essential text in the world, one that has opened doors to parts of our history and is the first tragic story in the world, to which all others are compared. Gilgamesh also presents to us archetypical images of women. The women in the epic poem are completely overshadowed and basically serve in two discriminatory, stereo-typical roles: as servants for the husbands in the town and as sexual beings. The Epic of Gilgamesh as a whole is a very sexist work. ... The character of Gilgamesh is very strong and powerful and God-like. ... Women are not and have not ever been as they are described in Gilgamesh. ... Gilgamesh was obviously written by a man. ... ” Ishtar is an important woman to analyze when reading Gilgamesh.
