Adam Foege Gilgamesh is an epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia, which became influential throughout the entire ancient world. The poem was written in southern Mesopotamia before 2000 B.C.The protagonist is a tyrant named Gilgamesh who lives in Uruk. The poem is about Gilgamesh's adventures with his companion Enkidu, whom he befriended after a heated battle between the two, and Gilgamesh's search for eternal life. The story of Gilgamesh was one of the earliest forms of writing. Written on clay tablets in cuneiform, the story was found in the library of the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal. Fragments of the poem were found in Syria and Turkey, showing it was popular throughout the ancient middle east. The epic is the one of the first works to effectively combine folklore, myths, and tales into one piece. 6. Hammurabi’s code had a profound impact on the ancient world. The business world benefited from the code because it made everything fair and equal. “If a merchant entrust money to an agent (broker) for some investment, and the broker suffer a loss in the place to which he goes, he shall make good the capital to the merchant.” This shows how reasonable and logically Hammurabi’s code was. It spelled out consequences for financial mess-ups. Another way it helped business is that it did not allow slander. Businesses could not make up stories about how bad another business is. This would in turn increase business to smaller merchants.
