Why Is Polyethylene More Suitable For Canoes Than Aluminium And Wood?
Canoes were originally used as a means of transport by native North Americans. ... Many people believe that the most aesthetically pleasing Canoes are those that are made the most conventional way, out of wood. There have been a high number of improvements in the manufacture of Canoes with the introduction of Polymers and metals like aluminium. ...
One of these polymers that is used in the manufacture of Canoes is Polyethylene. It is much stronger than aluminium and is no more expensive. The low price of the manufacture of polyethylene is obviously a great advantage for using it. Polyethylene is tough but a major disadvantage to its use is the fact that it has a low rigidity. To combat this problem, manufacturers support the interior with aluminium tubes and struts. The main reason that manufacturing Canoes in this way with polyethylene is so cheap is because they are machine produced in large quantities.
