R.E : Death and Crucifixion of Jesus Rough Draft I witnessed the death and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Up until that Friday I had viewed Jesus of Nazareth as a political trouble maker, trying to stir up rebellion, hatred and civil unrest, and as far as I was concerned he deserved his fatal punishment. My name is Mohammed Aljaihad, and I was part of the crowd who screamed at Pontius Pilate, “Let the responsibility for his death fall on us and our children.” I remember Friday well. There was an air of excitement, and many rumours floating about. Apparently Roman soldiers had been insulting, mocking and torturing Jesus for hours inside the Governors Palace. I thought it served him right to wear a scarlet robe and a crown of thorns after all his blasphemy and breaking of religious laws. How could this carpenter’s son from Nazareth claim to be the son of the living God? When Jesus eventually emerged, looking extremely weak and tired, we all mocked and jeered. He was so weak and pathetic that he couldn’t carry his own cross to the crucifixion site. The Roman soldiers had to force a black man named Simon of Cyrene to carry it for Jesus despite our suggestion that Elijah would happily carry it free of charge for the Messiah.
