The book is very in-depth with how much nature is described. Malouf goes not only into the strange forms of land and animals, but also with the human aspect. The characters throughout this book show much interaction with nature. They also show how nature is affecting them. There is a certain sign of human nature this book presents to us. Some characters seem to be more closely in touch with nature. This book implies there is a direct connection between human nature and nature through many ways. There is a certain type of human nature presented throughout this book. This nature presented is suspicion. During the book it seems as if the majority of the settlers were suspicious of Gemmy.
