Maurice Clarett is suiing the NFL. He is a college sophomore who is suspended by Ohio State and cannot play college football this year. He is a very talented young man. However, the NFL currently bans people from playing in the NFL until three years after their high school graduation. He wants the right to be drafted/play now. I am 100% against the NFL on this one. I expect the courts will side with him as it is a restraint of trade. (Yes, other restraints do exist such as licensing and the disallowance of minors to do certain jobs, but he is of the age of majority and no license is required to play in the NFL.) The NFL is also essentially a monopoly (yes, he can go to the Arena Football League, semi-pro or the Canadian Football League, but for all intents and purposes, the NFL is a monopoly.) And they have no right to keep him from his livelihood.
