Chinese Miners
Chinese Miners Find More Than Gold in the California Gold Rush
Did you know that thousands of Chinese left their homeland to seek their fortune in the gold fields of California in 1848? Most of the Chinese who came to “Gold Mountain” left China because of the flooding, drought, constant typhoons, and an on-going Civil War. They, like thousands of Americans, thought that the Gold Rush would give them better opportunities and a better way of life. When the Chinese first got to California, they made camps along the Yuba and Bear Rivers, near the gold fields.
