World War II Could World War II have been stopped before the first bomb was dropped? To answer that, the causes of the war have to be identified and analyzed. The Treaty of Versailles, Anti-Semitism, and Appeasement are three major causes of World War II. The Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I, was written up by the allied powers without any input from the Germans. The Treaty ruined Germany in many ways. It contained a war-guilt clause that forced the Germans to accept all responsibility for damages caused to any of the allied countries during the war. Furthermore, it forced demilitarization of the Rhine, elimination of the German air force and near elimination of the German navy, and a maximum allowance of 100,000 troops in the German army. The Germans were forced to give up the territories to France and land to start Poland. A democratic government was forced upon the Germans. Many of the people who were against the democratic government started the Nazi party. The Nazi party thought the Jews were out to destroy Germany.
