... One debate that hits home, though, is on the topic of sex and violence in the media. Two questions that I often ask myself are ‘Should TV ratings be re-evaluated in regards to sex and violence? ... ’ I feel that the media is detrimental and has gone downhill over the years.
What is the definition of sex and violence in the media? Violent acts are defined by most researchers as ‘…those physical acts intended to cause harm to another; also included were verbal threats of physical harm as well as scenes showing the aftermath of violence…’ (Zoglin). Sex can easily be defined as having any kind of reference to being gay or to having any kind of sexual life whatsoever. This ultimately brings us to yet another question, how do we know when to say that there is too much sex and violence?
Kids have always been violence prone, but there are horrific crimes being committed by even younger kids nowadays. ...
Kids today are fed a diet of glorified violence.
