Herbert Blumer was born at the beginning of the century (1900). ... Deciding that he wanted to enhance his studies, Blumer moved to attend the University of Chicago, where he continued his education to receive his doctorate of Sociology.
While at the University of Chicago, Blumer was taught by Ellsworth Faris; whom Blumer describes as a faithful supporter of George Herbert Mead. Mead was Blumer’s instructor for many of the courses that Blumer took. Blumer eventually took over Mead’s teachings as he had to withdraw from teaching due to illnesses.
