An output device is a peripheral, which receives data in the form of electrical pulses from the CPU. It then converts this data into information or into further data. Examples of output devices are which I used I my coursework are: 1) Different types of screens 2) Different types of printers I will be writing about these two devices. Output on screens Display screens (or monitors) are being increasingly used for computer output. Advantages: of high resolution or low resolution. · Drawings can be produced more accurately and appear detailed. · Text can be read easily without eyestrain. Disadvantages: of high resolution. · A high-resolution display uses more pixels and this uses more storage. · High resolution pictures take longer to process. It takes a very fast processor to animate a high-resolution picture smoothly. · High-resolution pictures need to be viewed on expensive display screen or the extra detail is washed. Advantages: of using colour · Colour makes screens more attractive · Colour can be used to highlight error message and menu options, etc. · Colour is more restful on the age those black and white. Disadvantages: of using colour Screens until a lot of colours: · Take up more storage · take longer to process Different types of screen 1) Standard television set An ordinary home television can be used for computer output. The pictures are not unsteady and have low resolution but they are aclequate for Teletext output. 2) Standard computer monitors This is the screen, which I used for my system. These have screens are smaller than most television sets but of better resolution. Larger monitors of better resolution are used for specialised applications such as CAD, desktop publishing and map making. 3) Liquid crystal displays [LCD’s]. These are screens made up from two glass plates with liquid in between. Applications: of LCD’s 1) As screens for small portable microcomputers. 2) As displays for electronic calculators and watches. 3) On top of a camera to give information about the number of pictures taken, the speed of the film and the camera settings.
