Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) is a disorder that affects people after a traumatic experience. Most of these experiences that cause PTSD are life threatening events such as military combat, violent assaults, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, or any kind of serious accident. Many of the psychological symptoms of PTSD are nightmares and disturbing flashbacks of the experience, difficulty sleeping, depression, anxiety, irritability, and feeling detached or estranged. The physical symptoms of the syndrome are headaches, gastrointestinal distress, problems in the immune system, dizziness, chest pains, and other discomforts throughout the body. Most doctors aren’t aware of the fact that the physical symptoms are actually caused by PTSD, but believe that the symptoms come from another disorder.
