... Today’s sermon was about the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dale was listening half-heartedly until Pastor Michael said to the congregation, “If you have not heard anything I have said this far, please at least ponder this point; everything contained in the Dead Sea Scrolls is almost identical to what is written in the books of the Bible.” Upon hearing this statement, Dale realized that the Dead Sea Scrolls were the most positive physical proof that the Bible was true, and the scrolls were instrumental in the shaping of Christianity today. ... They were found in a cave on the Northwest shore of the Dead Sea at Khirbat Qumran. The total number of scrolls found is almost impossible to count since many found were in bad shape or were found only in fragments (Encyclopedia Britannica Online). ...
There has been great controversy about the authenticity of the Dead Sea Scrolls between the scholars that have worked to decipher them. Almost all sources of information about the scrolls state that the publication of what content the scrolls contains was moving terribly slow. Many charged that the scholars were withholding the information because it was detrimental to the beliefs of Christianity. ... It is my considered conclusion, however, that if one will go through any of the historic statements of Christian faith he will find nothing that has been or can be disproved by the Dead Sea Scrolls. ... If I were so rash as to undertake a theological debate with a professor from either the Moody Bible Institute or Fordham University [a Catholic University] –which God forbid – I fear I should find no ammunition in the Dead Sea Scrolls to use against them”.
