Advertising is a method that many companies use to sell their product; but what kind of advertising does a company use when the product deals with a woman’s menstrual cycle. In dealing with this I thought of Jib Fowles’ essay “Advertising’s Fifteen Basic Appeals,” which deals with the advertising styles many companies use today, and how Tampax® Pearl uses two of these appeals: the need for affiliation and the need to achieve, to sell the product most people don’t talk about in public. ... Tampax® uses this appeal by asking the consumer “Are you a Pearl girl?” insisting to the person that if you are not a pearl girl then what are you.
