THE ENDJohnson 1 Kieran Johnson Mr. McNeil English 10-1 October 7,2003 Over Coming Great Conflicts People take a clear conscious for granted sometimes. A clear conscious can really help you when dealing with conflict and you have to make quick, smart decisions. If you are in trouble and your mind is racing you can get yourself injured or even killed. In the story “The Seadevil” by Arthor Gordon, Gordon develops the idea that conflict can be conquered even if it seems like it may be impossible. The man in this story is a young strong man who likes to fish once in a while. He is a smart man “he was a man who worked with his head, not his hands” who goes fishing to get away from his every day life and job, “he liked all [this] because he found it a reality that seemed to be missing from his twentieth-century job and from his daily life” (Gordon 33). He slowly rows out to his fishing spot “to the tumble down docks half a mile away,” (33). He caught one fish on the way out to his fishing spot. The man decided that he would not try to catch a single mullet at the fishing spot, he would “wait until he say three or four”(35).
