Racism
It is almost impossible to learn about the history of the US, or even the world, without hearing of racism, prejudice, and the persecution of people because of their skin color, culture, or religion. Racism has played a large role in shaping the world into what it is today and the name-calling and violence continues. Many people think that racism does not effect people anymore, since the Civil War anyway. ...
What exactly is racism? ... ” So racism is the inability so see past physical differences therefore judging people by the way they look instead of by who they are. ...
Racism is a point of view inherited from your surroundings. ... The author of Spreading Poison, John Langone wrote, “Because of prejudice and racism, we develop stereotypes, over-simplified mental images of people that are as cruel as they are unfair. ... ” So by stopping racism at a young age it may be possible to extinguish stereotypes and eliminate prejudice all together, but the fact that people still look, talk and act differently will never change; and never will need to. ... Locke wrote, “the only true antidote to the problem of racism: individualism.” Racism arises from the notion that all people of a race are the same, and that everyone in that race has the same beliefs and ideals.
