The purpose of this assessment and presentation was to expand the knowledge of students about African Americans and their contribution to American history. The reason I chose this topic was because after conversing socially with man of the students it because apparent that many of them were of the mindset that most African Americans contributed of Americans society only through music and sports. The class size was. The location of the school was Prospect High School located in Prospect, Ill. The students were composed of ninth and tenth graders. The normal subject for the class was history. The class size was twenty students. The class started at 9:10 am and completed at 9:50 am. In terms of the ethnic mix of the class there were twenty Caucasian students, seven Hispanics, four African Americans, three students from the Middle East, and four Asians. The traditional format of teaching was lectures with weekly assigned readings. Once a semester traditionally in these class students were assigned to groups with one person in the group assigned to be the leader or moderation of each group.
