KENNEDY ASSASSINATION

...      What reasons did the HSCA have in 1979 for suggesting that President Kennedy was the victim of a conspiracy? ... Virginian Congressman Thomas Downing, a believer in a conspiracy decided to call on Congress to reinvestigate the assassination of John Kennedy. ... Some people in America were extremely suspicious of a corrupt Government and so this led to more speculation over the assassination of Kennedy and whether or not the CIA were involved. ... Kennedy was not kept fully informed of this attempted assassination and when this became known the suspicion of a conspiracy became even more widespread. The CIA had not agreed with Kennedy’s decision not to reinforce their army during the Bay of Pigs and the Mafia disapproved of Kennedy’s tough role against organised crime. ... This raised questions about what might have been withheld on Lee Oswald’s and Kennedy’s assassination. ... The Mafia was overheard discussing the assassination ‘relentlessly’ but there was ‘never any sign’ they were part of a conspiracy. ... This was reinforced in July 1975, when a newsman broke the story that FBI agent James Hosty had received a note from Oswald shortly before the assassination and had destroyed it. ... They may have destroyed the note, as it was evidence that they had not thoroughly investigated him leaving Oswald free to assassinate Kennedy. ... According to Oswalds landlady and roommates, during the two months before the assassination, Oswald never received any calls and only made one a night to his wife. Days before Kennedy’s visit there were no ‘last-minute preparations’. ...

There were many controversies over the apparent ‘magic bullet’ which went through Kennedy’s upper back to Connally’s right armpit, through Connally’s right wrist lodging in his left thigh. It seemed to many critics that this was hardly possible but after much analysing it was found that the Governor was in such a position that these wounds were the result of the bullet that passed through Kennedy and not any other bullet.
