It’s about 77 degrees on a warm summer night, and where could there be a better place to be other than my work. As I stroll into my admission free park, I think of all the meanings this ancient place has for me. Oh, the feeling of freedom and cash-free fun that has taken me over. This place where I find myself time and time again is somewhere I cherish. The sweet memories I have of meeting girls with a swagger in my step, the unforgettable times on the pirate ship ride, and the amazing times with friends on rides while making asses of ourselves, all come to mind. There is absolutely no better place to have a theme park than in Santa Cruz, California. When I look around, I see the worn down, antique rides that make up the character of the theme park. And when I set my eyes on the most famous ride in the park, The Giant Dipper, I feel special to have experienced the enjoyment of this ride, known as the 7th oldest roller coaster ever. The rusted metal and chipped paint give me the impression that a lot of people have been frightened on this ride. The roller coaster is seemingly unstable. The huge looping ride might collapse anytime, especially since the ride was not repaired after the huge 1989 earthquake that rocked all northern California to the ground. But I think what gets most people animated for the ride are the loud screams I hear as the roller coaster takes its first gigantic, pummeling plunge to the ground. Those screams, to me, are so inviting, its like someone offering me a sports car for a free joy ride.
