Berkeley, (sir) Lennox (Randal Francis) (born in Boar¡¦s Hill, Oxford, 1903). English composer. He studied music in Paris with Nadia Boulanger from 1927 to o1932. He became a professional composer in 1946-1968. Honored C.B.E. in 1957. Knighted in 1974. His works are outstanding in quality and fastidious of workmanship. Polka (Czech for "Polish woman"), a lively couple dance of Bohemian folk origin in duple time and characterized by three quick steps and a hop. Originating in the early 19th century. It was a round dance in quick duple time, with steps on the first 3 half-beats of the measure and a sort of rest on the 4th.
