The Necessity of the Crucifixion

Many people today ask whether Jesus is the only Way to God. They ask: “What about Buddha or Mohammed? Can’t one just live a good life? Why did Jesus have to die on the Cross to save us?” They support these arguments with the fact that God is a loving God, and love means forgiveness. However, they fail to see that although God is a loving God, our God is also a righteous, just, and holy God. When God created Man, He ran into a problem: He created Man to share His glory with him, but Man spurned Him and chose to sin. And so He as a loving God wished to save them; but as a righteous, just, and holy God, His very nature would have destroyed them, for as Romans 6:23 tells us: “The wages of sin is death.” And so to solve this problem, God had to figure out a way to pay the wages of sin: death.
