Many people seem confident and secure until you really know them. Insecurities and doubts plague many of us, especially although not exclusively in our teenage years, and societal pressures cause so much of this. Accepting oneself can be extremely difficult. Society creates expectations and dictates what one should value. For example, strength and height are oftened valued in males. This comes from a time when males needed to be strong for survival and to look impressive to mate. However, in current society, survival is not impeded by weakness, in general, and people (at least some) are not so shallow as to only date tall/strong men.
