In the book Billy Budd, by Herman Melville, there is a very important conflict. ... I believe that the decision that Captain Verde made was the correct one for the crew.
Billy is known as the “handsome sailor”. Billy’s only flaw is that he has a stutter. Sometimes out of frustration it causes him to react in anger Billy is well liked by most of the crew. The only person who does not like Billy is Claggart. ... The first time that the impression is given that he does not like Billy, is when Billy spills his soup. Billy is walking in the mess hall when he trips and spills his bowl of soup and the master-at-arms starts to poke fun at him. Then next time that Billy and the master-at-arms meet is when the story’s conflict comes to a head.
Because of his dislike toward Billy, Calggart accuses Billy of planning a mutiny in front of the Captain.
