This paper will attempt to examine the ethical implications of technology in business. To start, we will discuss in general terms the role of technology in business. Next, we will discuss the major ethical issues which relate to the application of technology in business by focusing on two or three areas of business that are most directly affected by technology. ... According to the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary, the word technology refers to “the practical application of knowledge in a particular area” or “the science of the practical or industrial arts”. The advancement of technology has enabled many people to lead a much better life. More and more people are getting exposed to the latest technology at less or sometimes no cost. At the same time there has been a growth in “ethics” issues. Most companies today have a code of ethics in their policy manuals.
Let me start by talking about the role of technology in business. Apart from the definition of technology in the dictionary, I found an interesting definition that said that technology is the sum of the ways by which the members of a social group provide themselves with the material objects of their civilization. ... It’s the knowledge and the tools and what people are made of which constitute technology, which is what people have used to build their civilization.
