In today’s society, media has covered around the world by many large corporations. People receive the information from the news outlets such as television, newspapers, magazines and the new media; internet. In my essay, I will discuss how media proprietors exercise power and influence over the editorial direction and content of their news outlets.
The first thing I will discuss is the definition of power because it is important for one to understand the idea of power which media proprietors use. The theorist, Max Weber who defined it as the power of A to get B to do what A wants whether B wants to do it or not. ... It has also been criticised, however, in particular by Steven Lukes, who offered a more complex 3-dimensional concept of power. Lukes accepts Webers definition as one concept of power, but argues that it neglects two other important dimensions.
