William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. Macbeth has inspired numerous other great works of literature through its conflict between good and evil; ambition and morality; and loyalty and treachery. Macbeth is a tragedy based upon a war hero named Macbeth who follows his evil ambition, which is ultimately paid by death. First of all, Macbeth is responsible for telling Lady Macbeth about the prophecies and for letting her totally influence him. ... Even though the witches’ predictions are responsible for influencing Macbeth’s thoughts, they do not tell Macbeth to murder Duncan or Banquo. Finally, Macbeth is fully conscious and aware of his actions. From Macbeth’s treachery, overconfidence, and his immorality it is certain that he is responsible for his own downfall.
First of all, when the second prophecy becomes true, Macbeth immediately thinks of murdering Duncan. ... Clearly we see a dark side to Macbeth. Macbeth is horrified by the idea, but his thoughts of becoming king still remain. Another example of Macbeth’s early thoughts of treachery occurs when Duncan names his son Malcom as the heir to the throne.
